Hello and welcome to the Bikers C.A.R.E. blog! If you're a new visitor here, you're in for an inspiring ride. Our organization, Bikers C.A.R.E., Inc. (which stands for Community Awareness, Recovery, and Education), is a Florida-based nonprofit dedicated to ending child abuse in all its forms. Founded by a passionate couple of bikers, we've been harnessing the power of the motorcycle community to protect vulnerable children since 2017. Whether you're a parent, caregiver, fellow biker, or concerned citizen, this blog is your hub for learning about our mission, discovering ways to get involved, and staying updated on the ongoing battle to create safer environments for kids. Buckle up as we dive into who we are, what we do, and how you can join us on this crucial journey.bikers-care.org
Let's start at the beginning. Bikers C.A.R.E. was established in April 2017 by Pete Meier (known in our circles as GuardDog) and his wife Chris (aka Ninja) in the heart of Florida. What began as a grassroots effort to leverage the "biker mystique"—that tough, no-nonsense image of motorcycle enthusiasts—has grown into a beacon of hope for at-risk children and their families. Our motto, "No More Fears - No More Tears," encapsulates our unwavering commitment to prevention, awareness, and recovery. We're not just talking the talk; we're riding the road to make a tangible difference. In Florida, where child abuse is tragically all too common, every adult is a mandatory reporter under state law, and we empower communities to live up to that responsibility. Nationally, the statistics are heartbreaking: an estimated 700,000 children suffer abuse each year in the U.S., with 4 to 7 losing their lives daily to abuse or neglect. More than 70% of these fatalities involve children under two years old, and over 80% are pre-kindergarten age. The good news? The majority of these tragedies are preventable, and that's where we come in.bikers-care.org
Our focus is laser-sharp on child abuse prevention and support, with a special emphasis on Florida's unique challenges. The Sunshine State sees thousands of reported cases annually, from physical and emotional abuse to neglect and online exploitation. We believe it takes a village—or in our case, a pack of bikers—to protect our youngest citizens. Through education, direct aid, and community outreach, we raise awareness about the signs of abuse (like unexplained injuries, sudden behavioral changes, or withdrawal) and stress the importance of the "See Something - Say Something" principle. If you suspect a child is in danger, don't hesitate—report it immediately. In Florida, you can call the statewide hotline at 1-800-96-ABUSE, but we're here as your local ally, offering guidance every step of the way.
At the core of our work are hands-on programs that blend the thrill of riding with life-saving impact. One of our flagship initiatives is the annual Pinwheel Run, held every April during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This isn't your average ride; it's one of the largest escorted motorcycle runs in Citrus County, drawing participants from across Florida and beyond. Riders don their leathers, pinwheels fluttering as symbols of hope, to raise funds and awareness for abused children. The 8th Annual event in 2025 was a roaring success, with over a hundred bikes thundering through the streets to spotlight the cause. We've also got the "No Child Forgotten" project, where we collect donations to provide Christmas gifts and essentials for kids hunkered down in domestic violence shelters. Imagine the joy on a child's face when they realize they're not invisible— that's the magic we create.bikers-care.org
Our community programs keep the momentum going year-round. We host clothing drives to outfit kinship caregivers—often grandparents or relatives stepping up—with essential kids' apparel. Back-to-School events get little ones ready with supplies, easing the burden on foster families. And we're always out there raising awareness at local motorcycle rallies and community gatherings, teaching folks what to watch for and how to intervene safely. We've even assisted individual children directly, like our first "kid" we helped navigate toward a brighter future with their caregiver. These efforts aren't just events; they're lifelines that build resilience in families and deter abusers through visibility and support.bikers-care.org
But we don't stop at awareness—we provide real resources to fortify homes and organizations against abuse. On our website, you can download our free Online Child Protection Guide, a comprehensive toolkit for parents and caregivers tackling the digital dangers facing kids today. From sexting and sextortion to cyberbullying that can lead to heartbreaking outcomes like child suicides, this guide arms you with practical strategies. We also offer advice on monitoring smartphones and computers: Know who your child is chatting with, scrutinize those messages, and stay vigilant about risky apps that predators lurk in. Whether you're a parent spotting red flags or an organization seeking training, we're your first call in the fight for child safety.bikers-care.org
Now, the best part: how you can get involved and become part of this powerhouse movement. As an all-volunteer organization, we thrive on community support, and every contribution counts. Start by donating—head to our website's Donate page where 100% of funds fuel our programs, from runs to resource distribution. No amount is too small; it's the collective roar that makes the difference. If you're a biker at heart (or even if you're not), consider joining as a full member or Child Champion. Volunteering is straightforward: Contact us via the helpline or our online form to express interest.
Events are where the action heats up. Register for the next Pinwheel Run or our virtual Ride Against Abuse (details coming soon!) listed on our Events page. These are family-friendly and non-bikers are welcome as supporters. We offer free speaking engagements for schools, churches, and civic groups—just reach out, and we'll roll up to educate on abuse prevention. Donations for these talks are appreciated but never required. Partnerships with local shelters, foster programs, and law enforcement amplify our reach, so if you're with an organization, let's team up. Follow us on social media—Instagram (@bikerscare), Facebook (BkrsCARE), and YouTube—for real-time updates on volunteer calls and event sign-ups.bikers-care.org
Looking ahead, this blog is set to become your go-to resource for deepening your impact. In upcoming posts, we'll deliver practical tools to help parents, caregivers, and organizations foster safe environments for children. Expect in-depth guides on recognizing emotional abuse, creating family safety plans, and navigating Florida's mandatory reporting laws. We'll share downloadable checklists for home audits, tips on talking to kids about personal boundaries, and strategies for community groups to host their own awareness workshops. Nationally, we'll cover news items spotlighting victories in the fight against child abuse—like groundbreaking legislation or innovative prevention tech—but with a strong Florida lens. Think updates on state-funded initiatives
, alongside stories from across the U.S. that inspire local action. Our goal? Equip you with knowledge that turns bystanders into guardians.
In closing, Bikers C.A.R.E. isn't just an organization; it's a family on wheels, united against the shadows that threaten our kids. Since our founding eight years ago, we've touched countless lives, but the road ahead needs more riders like you. Visit bikers-care.org today, make that call to (813) 609-2457, or drop us a message. Together, we can rev up a future where no child fears or sheds tears. If not you, then who? Let's ride!
