4th Annual Pinwheel Run
Time & Location
About the Event
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Pinwheel is the national symbol representing every child's right to a great childhood! We hope you'll join us and show the world you stand with Bikers C.A.R.E. against child abuse!
The event starts at the Citrus County Sheriff's office in downtown Inverness. The Sheriff's Department will escort riders along a scenic route through the backroads of Citrus county, ending at Crystal Harley Davidson around 12:30 p.m. There, the band "Jezabelle" will rock the house at the after-ride party!
Why a ride focused on raising awareness about child abuse?
The United States has one of the worst records among industrialized nations. We have the world's richest economy but spend the least on protecting our kids.
700,000 children each year are abused in the United States. To put that in perspective, that's the population of Tampa, and Orlando, FL combined!
That's just the number of individual cases - not the number of times the abuse occurred.
And while sexual abuse tends to make the evening news, the reality is that only 7% of all abuse cases are sexual. Over half are cases of neglect; that is, not providing for a child's basic needs, with children under the age of 1 being the most at risk - nearly 4x more than any other age group.
We're losing on average between four to seven children every day to child abuse and neglect. Nearly half of these deaths are children less than 1 year old!
Who is the abuser? Over 75% are the parent of the victim.
in April 2017, Pete (aka GuardDog) and Chris (aka Ninja) Meier, began Bikers C.A.R.E. The mission? To end child abuse in all its forms and to come to the aid of children victimized by abuse.
It's a big goal. And we need help. Want to save the world? Start by saving a child.
